Dear St. Alban’s Community,

We are pleased to announce that the Board of Trustees has selected INDYSCHOOL CONSULTANCY, a well-established national and leadership search firm to guide us in our search for our next Head of School, who will assume the leadership of St. Alban’s in July 2024. Tim Viands and Dr. Charles Clark, both of whom are experienced heads of school with a combined 46 years of head experience, will be the team of IndySchool Consultancy directly engaged with the St. Alban’s community.

Tim and Charlie are deeply committed to honoring our legacy of exceptional School Heads by dedicating significant time to get to know and understand St. Alban’s from various perspectives. This will allow them to recruit candidates who have both the experience and personal attributes to seamlessly transition to St. Alban’s and continue to lead our life-changing school. They will seek leaders who will honor our past while confidently stewarding St. Alban’s through its next chapter.

Committee members provide a diverse professional background comprised of alumni, current and past parents of the school.

Tim and Charlie started by asking members of the St. Alban’s community to complete an online survey in preparation for their campus visit on November 6-7, 2023.  During that visit, they will meet with a wide range of school community members to explain the search process and to listen and learn about all that is unique and special about St. Alban’s. Your input in this process will allow our consultants to develop a deep understanding of both challenges and opportunities present at St. Alban’s today and in turn to craft a leadership profile to guide our search. Our consultants understand that there are many highly skilled school leaders, but St. Alban’s deserves a leader who is deeply committed to the values St. Alban’s holds dear and is poised to make a long-term commitment to continue the trajectory and tradition of this institution.

Sincerely,

My name is Alice Hirst. I have a BBA degree from Texas Tech University and an MBA from Texas A&M University at Commerce. For the first 30 years of my professional career, I was a Business/Career and Technology teacher at Harlingen High School. I taught everything from Typing, Accounting, Personal Finance, Business Law to Computer Applications. After leaving the classroom, I taught Computer Skills and Applications to HCISD teachers for the next 5 years. I was happily retired until former St. Alban’s HOS, Mary Catherine Duffy, asked me to assist in setting up a computer lab at St. Alban’s and do some teacher training for her staff. This was to be a temporary job for a semester. In fact, it became a full time teaching and IT job for the next 9 years. It was a joy to have grades K through 6 come to the Computer Lab every week. We started with basic computer skills at the lower grades and added more advanced skills in grades 2 through 6. Students used Word to do reports and research papers, Excel spreadsheets and graphs for mathematical calculations and displays for Power Point presentations, and Publisher to design advertisements and news articles. Over my 44 years of teaching, I literally taught students aged 5 to 65.  I am a member of St. Alban’s Church where I serve on the Altar Guild. In retirement, I have found that I am often busier than I ever imagined. Currently, I am President of the Gladys Porter Zoo Board of Directors, and my family sponsors two foundations that provide scholarships to graduating high school seniors. I am an active member of P.E.O. which is a ladies group that exists with the sole purpose of finding scholarships for women seeking higher education. Learning NEVER STOPS! Bio Coming Soon...

Hi. I am Shannon Sparks. I am a St. Alban’s former student and current parent. I began attending St. Alban’s School in the 3 year old class and graduated in 6th grade. From there I went on to Harlingen public schools and then graduated from Texas A&M University with a BA in Communications. My husband, Sam, also attended St. Albans beginning in the 2 year old class and graduating in 6th grade. His mom was a preschool teacher at St. Alban’s for over 20 years.

Sam and I have 3 children, all in school at St. Albans. Evangeline is a 6th grader, Mason is in 4th and Samuel is in 2nd.

Sam and I work together owning and operating SRS Farms, which produces row crops such as cotton, corn, grain and sugarcane; SRS Land & Cattle which raises registered Brahman Cattle; and Farmers Crop Insurance which is an Ag Risk Management service with locations in Harlingen and Victoria.

Sincerely,
Andrew Zamorategu

My name is Rex Warren. My wife, Laura, was born and raised in Harlingen. Her family have been members of the church for decades. Laura was baptized at St. Albans, we were married here, my son was baptized and married here. We have been members of the church since we returned to Harlingen in 2016.

I have had the honor and privilege to serve on the Vestry, the School Board and the boards of both endowment funds. I currently serve as Treasurer of the church and the School Board. I believe strongly in the mission of the school. The school is, in my opinion, the most important outreach of our church and has positively impacted the lives of students for generations. I want to work to help assure that it does so well into the future.

In my career in the hotel industry, I had a great deal with search, succession, and transition of management and executives and trust that experience will be brought to bear on this important search.

Learning is a lifetime process. Growth in learning is unique to each child.

Take a look at what our alumni have to say about their experience at St. Alban’s

St. Alban’s laid the strong foundation for the work ethic that I have in school today, and it also helped me build friendships with people who are still my best friends today!

-Julianne Robinson, StA Class of 2003 and 2009 Valedictorian - Harlingen H.S.

St. Alban’s made me a structured individual. I have not been told once since the 2nd grade to do my homework because I knew what was needed to succeed even at such a young age. I also became goal oriented when I would try to make the honor roll as much as possible. Because of how St. Alban’s has made me goal oriented, I have been on the Dean's list at the University of Miami and I am at the top of my class.
